Economic Growth and Development, the Main Pivot of Discussions between Acting Minister of Finance and World Bank Country Director for Afghanistan

Nov 27, 2018: H.E. Dr. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi, Acting Minister of Finance and Chief Advisor on Infrastructure to H.E. the President, on the sideline of Geneva Conference for Afghanistan that was held in Swiss, met with Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, the World Bank Country Director for Afghanistan.

Mr. Mustafa Mastoor, Minister of Economy, representatives of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Islamic Development Bank (ISDB), European Union and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were present at the event.

In the meeting, the parties discussed Islamic Banking, anti- corruption, resources for Afghanistan economic growth including extractive resources and regional connectivity, preparation of national budget considering facilities, balance and international standards, transparency in domestic revenue collection and capacity development of government institutions for fighting against corruption.

Acting Minister of Finance proposed that international assistances should be spent through national budget taking into account the effectiveness, which the issue was supported by the participants and donor countries.

Likewise, during the meeting, Acting Minister of Finance has recalled the major regional connectivity projects that Afghanistan uses as regional intersection transit, adding that Afghanistan can continue its economic development with it.
